Meet our Dentist
Our goal is to develop a winning relationship based on your needs by offering the finest in general dental and cosmetic procedures. We welcome your call and look forward to meeting with you personally.
Dr David Ekins BDSc
Our principal dentist.
I grew up in Sydney as one of three boys and graduated from Sydney University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery.
For the next four years I worked with Professor Robyn Woods in Yass, N.S.W. in private practice. His standards were exacting and it was a priviledge to work with Robyn. He was a fantastic mentor to me in my early career. I enjoyed all facets of general dentistry and became a Visiting Dental Officer at Yass District Hospital, gaining further valuable experience in oral surgery.
Country life was great fun. I spent my spare time playing Rugby and falling off horses. It was here that I met my wife and we now have two young children. I still fall off horses when we visit Yass, I fish with ambition and some success, and support Rugby rather than play. In 2007 I walked the Kokoda track
In 1996 I took the opportunity to work in the U.K. and then travelled extensively in that country and Europe. On returning to Sydney, I commenced private practice in Frenchs Forest.
My focus has been to establish a practice providing the highest quality of care, using the most modern equipment and supported by ongoing further education for myself and the professional and support team at Blue House Dental.
My particular interests are in comprehensive dentistry.
- Creating a healthy mouth supports good general health.
- Creating a beautiful smile encourages good self esteem
My goal is to provide you with the best dental care in a safe environment, as gently and efficiently as possible.
Our practice is caring, professional and works as a team to provide you with the latest trends in preventative and restorative dentistry for you and your family.
Dr Nicola Smith BDSc, FICCDE
Our Associate dentist.
I grew up in Dunedin, New Zealand and obtained my Bachelor of Dental Sugery with Credit from the University of Otago in 1998. I worked in the UK for 4 years which allowed me to gain extensive experience in general practice including a year as the on-site dentist for British Petroleum.
I have lived in Australia for 6 years now and this is definitely where I call home. After traveling around the world I've found there is no better place than Sydney - I love the sunshine, the beaches and of course the people!
My aim is to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth for the rest of your life with beautiful, strong teeth that allow you to smile confidently. I strive to provide that care in the most gentle and comfortable way possible so that your experience is as pleasant as it can be.
I recommend the same treatment for you that I would my friends, family or myself in a similar situation and of course it is individually adapted to suit your time, budget and current situation.
My focus is on prevention so that once we help you recapture your dental health we can maintain it and minmise the cost and discomfort that unhealthy teeth can bring about. Prevention strategies with children mean that most can expect to be free of fillings well into adulthood.
We are becoming increasingly more aware of the effect the health of the mouth has on the rest of the body - for example the relationship between gum disease and heart disease. Having a healthy mouth is not just about having fresh breath and a lovely smile - it can enhance your overall well being and quality of life.
I am committed to continuing education and regularly attend seminars to offer you the most up to date techniques. We are lucky to have 'state of the art' equipment available at our practice which allows certain procedures to be finished in less time than was previously possible. For example in most cases a crown can be fitted on the same day and we have rotary files for root canal treatment which means less time in the chair for you!
As well as the regular white composite fillings we can now offer long-lasting ceramic restorations that not only look great but make the tooth much stronger than it would be with an amalgam filling. If you would like to know more about these please ask at your next checkup.
I can inform you how to best look after your smile and encourage you to maintain it at regular checkups. I enjoy all facets of dentistry and find it particulary satisfying to improve aesthetics and help a person smile with confidence.
I have worked for David at Blue House Dental for over 6 years now and think we have created a wonderful caring environment which is a pleasure to work in. I hope you will find the atmosphere at our practice to be friendly and welcoming and that our ongoing relationship creates the trust and confidence that make you want to recommend us to your friends and family.
I look forward to caring for you.
Nicola
